Policy Training and Events

We provide and support policy-related training, events and opportunities to help raise the profile of policy issues, inform and inspire our audience, and promote dialogue between the scientific community and policymakers.

Discover the training and events we help bring to the community, from the Society itself and our policy partners.

Open access – ask me anything

In this Biochemistry Focus webinar, brought to you by the Biochemical Society and Portland Press, what today's rapid evolution to open access means for the global research community is discussed, with speakers covering both the latest developments and what lies ahead.

The sociology of the anti-vaccine movement

In this Biochemistry Focus webinar from the Biochemical Society and Portland Press, speakers discuss factors affecting vaccine uptake including anti-vaccine sentiment along with interventions to improve uptake and target anti-vaccine movement.

Policy Lates

Organised by the Royal Society of Biology (RSB) and supported by the Biochemical Society, this series of events brings together panels of experts for informal debates on contemporary science policy topics.

‘Introduction to Public Engagement and Science Policy’ training course

This short online course from the Biochemical Society gives an overview of the tools required to communicate beyond the lab and engage the public effectively, and is ideal for early to late career bioscientists who wish to learn more about science policy and public engagement.

Sense about Science 'Voice of Young Science' workshops

Organised by our partner Sense about Science, these workshops teach early career scientists how to engage with science and the media, and contribute to public discussions on science and evidence.

We partner with one 'Standing up for Science' workshop each year to help our members access these workshops.

Parliamentary Links Day

We support Parliamentary Links day, which is organised by the Royal Society of Biology on behalf of the science and technology community and brings together scientists, learned societies and Members of Parliament to strengthen connections between them.

Each year, the event has a different theme and we invite guests from within our membership to attend and participate in the discussions.

Voice of the Future

This event, organised by the Royal Society of Biology gives a panel of early career scientists the opportunity to question senior figures from Parliament and Government on their burning science policy questions.

Each year, we invite one early career member to participate - read about Ben Foster’s experience at Voice of the Future 2021 here.

STEM for Britain

We are proud to sponsor the Bronze Medal in the Biological and Biomedical Sciences section at STEM for Britain, a poster competition for early career scientists organised by the Parliamentary & Scientific Committee where finalists exhibit their work in the Houses of Parliament.
