The Biochemical Society offers a large portfolio of Grants and Awards designed to help support and recognise the entire molecular biosciences community.
Each year, the Biochemical Society supports individuals, organisations, and groups from across the world through our varied grants and bursaries scheme. With funding available for events, PhDs, projects, career development and more, there is funding support available for all career stages.
The Biochemical Society also presents an annual Awards programme that celebrates the outstanding achievements and diversity of the molecular bioscience community. Spanning across general and specific fields of science, we aim to recognize excellence at all levels through our diverse award categories. All of our awards carry a range of monetary prizes and career enhancing opportunities such as submitting an article to one of our journals, presenting an Award Lecture at a Society event or webinar, mentoring, and the chance to help shape the future of the Society and our publishing arm, Portland Press.

We offer a wide variety of grants and bursaries in the following areas:
- Conferences and travel grants help our members cover the accommodation, travel, and registration costs of attending a scientific meeting, training course, or lab visits.
- Bursaries support members attending Biochemical Society scientific meetings, training events, and courses, providing financial aid towards registration fees, travel, or additional care costs.
- Research grants support summer laboratory placements, benchwork costs, research capacity building in lower-income economies, PhD scholarships, and outreach activities.
- Sponsorship opportunities cover the hosting costs of biochemistry-focused events and activities, including independently organized meetings, lectures, seminars, and student societies.

Each year, the Biochemical Society aims to deliver an inclusive and accessible Awards programme that celebrates the outstanding achievements and diversity of the molecular bioscience community. Recognizing excellence and achievement in both specific and general fields of science, all our awards and medal lectureships carry a range of monetary prizes and career enhancing opportunities.
Nine awards are presented annually and five are biennially or triennially awarded. Nominations that reflect the full breadth and diversity of the molecular bioscience community are encouraged and can be submitted by and for anyone (you don’t have to be a Biochemical Society member).
