The 2020 Morton Lecture

60 minutes

The 2020 Morton Lecture: The key role of lipids in the synthesis of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis cell envelope and identification of new drug targets

Professor Gurdyal S. Besra, Bardrick Professor of Microbial Physiology & Chemistry at the University of Birmingham, is the winner of the 2020 Morton Lecture, which is awarded to researchers who have made outstanding contributions to lipid biochemistry. In this webinar, Professor Besra presents his award lecture, which will explore his group's research into the contribution of highly specialised lipids found in the cell envelope of M. tuberculosis to the essentiality of the organism both in terms of integrity and assembly, offering the potential identification of new drug targets.

This webinar is Chaired by Dr Sam Miller, a Senior Lecture at the University of Aberdeen's Institute of Medical Sciences and Member of the Biochemical Society Research Area II (Molecular Structure and Function).
