Biochemistry Focus Webinar Series

60 minutes

At this webinar, chaired by Professor Natalio Krasnogor, Newcastle University, we heard from two researchers using advanced computational approaches to examine existing - and engineer novel - biological processes.

Professor Christianne Berger-Schaffitzel, a Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Bristol, talked about a recent discovery by her team of a druggable pocket containing linoleic acid (LA) in the electron cryo-microscopy structure of the SARS-CoV-2 spike glycoprotein.

Dr Nicole Pearcy presented an overview of the genome scale metabolic models (GSMs) of aerobic and anaerobic industrially relevant chassis developed by the Synthetic Biology Research Centre-Nottingham, at which she is a Research Fellow. These chassis are used for the sustainable production of platform chemicals and biofuels.
